About Us

The Science Communication Training Program was launched as a collaborative initiative under the BRICS Astronomy framework. Recognizing the growing need for effective science communicators, especially in the field of astronomy, the program was developed to bridge the gap between scientific research and public understanding.
What began as a shared vision among educators, astronomers, and science communicators from BRICS and African nations has grown into a structured training platform. It combines online and in-person learning with hands-on outreach, providing young astronomers with both the skills and the experience needed to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
Benefits include:
Builds Public Trust in Science
Clear, transparent communication helps demystify research, fostering credibility and confidence in scientific findings among non‑expert audience
Enables Evidence‑Based Decision‑Making
By translating complex data into accessible insights, science communicators equip policymakers, stakeholders, and communities to make informed choices on health, environment, and technology.
Inspires Future Generations
Engaging storytelling and outreach spark curiosity and motivation in young people, nurturing the next wave of innovators, researchers, and informed citizens
Vision statement
We envision a future where every young scientist across the Global South becomes a confident storyteller of science—bridging the gap between discovery and everyday life. By fostering a community of skilled communicators, we aspire to create a world in which scientific ideas are not only understood but embraced, driving innovation, informed decision‑making, and collective progress.
Through our program, we see these emerging leaders catalyzing change in their communities: translating complex research into inspiring narratives, shaping science policy with evidence, and sparking lifelong curiosity in learners of all ages. Our ultimate goal is to weave science communication into the fabric of society, empowering the next generation to champion knowledge and illuminate the possibilities of tomorrow.
Mission statement
Our mission is to empower science communicators across the Global South with the science communication skills they need to inspire curiosity, foster public engagement, and make scientific knowledge more accessible to diverse communities. We aim to create a new generation of science ambassadors who can effectively share the wonder science.
